Donna Blackall (Yorta Yorta, Taungurung), For my Mum, 2017, raffia, NZ flax.

Join us for a weave and yarn with Journey-Woman weaver Donna Blackall (Yorta Yorta/Taungurung).

Donna will start us on the coil weave and then take us through a variety of weaves evident in the Koorie Heritage Trust collection.

Donna was taught by Gunditjmara woman and master weaver Bronwyn Razem, and has been weaving for over 10 years. The technique Donna uses is a satin stitch basket weave that she uses to make both traditional pieces such as eel traps and baskets as well as exploring some of her own designs, weaving totems like the platypus and other animals.

Come in and have a yarn, join the weaving circle, start something new or finish off that project you’ve been working on!
