In 2015, the KHT celebrated its 30th birthday and launched its new home in the Yarra Building at Federation Square. This is a new beginning for the Trust.

Wominjeka – A New Beginning is an exhibition of new works inspired by 30 years of collecting by the KHT. In Wominjeka, we look towards the future by profiling five early-career Koorie artists representing a broad cross section of Victorian Indigenous art talent. Working with mentors, these artists have created new works in response to selected items from the KHT’s Collections. Wominjeka – A New Beginning manifests the KHT’s commitment to nurturing and incubating the next generation of Koorie artists.

Exhibiting artists: Marlene Gilson (Wadawurrung), Georgie McGuire (Wirundjeri), Mitch Mahoney (Boon Wurrung), Josh Muir (Yorta Yorta, Gunditjmara, Barkindji) and Raymond Young (Gunnai, Gunditjmara, Yorta Yorta). We also acknowledge and thank the mentors who provided cultural and artistic guidance to each of the participating artists: Maree Clarke (Mutti Mutti, Yorta Yorta, BoonWurrung, Wemba Wemba), Lee Darroch (Yorta Yorta, Mutti Mutti, Boon Wurrung), Ray Thomas (Gunnai) and Peter Waples-Crowe (Ngarigo).

Glenda Nichols (Wadi Wadi, Ngarrindgeri, Yorta Yorta), Feather Flower 1994. Feathers, wire, tape. Collection Koorie Heritage Trust.
