Join Yorta Yorta / Taungurung weaver, Donna Blackall for the first in a fresh series of monthly weaving workshops at KHT where people of varying degrees of weaving experience can create together and build on their knowledge and share in their skills.
Donna Blackall is a Yorta Yorta/ Taungurung woman; a Journey woman from Victoria, Australia.
She learnt to weave over 10 years ago by Master weaver Bronwyn Razem, Gunditjmara woman She has been weaving throughout Melbourne and parts of Victoria and been involved in many exhibitions with Victorian weavers. She is part of the Victorian Aboriginal Weaving Collective Group and continues to learn from these amazing women still today. She creates piece’s using modern materials and introduced plant fibre’s and creates contemporary art piece’s that relate to the history of Victoria. The craft of basket weaving has been around for thousands of years and the many styles and techniques have been used right throughout Australia and the world.
“Today I enjoy passing this skill onto to all people who are interested and keen to learn. I find the conversations and the relaxed atmosphere this brings when doing a workshop quite amazing, while learning the history of this country in the meantime.”
The session is free, but bookings are essential.
The workshop is suitable for adults. Beginners welcome.
