Are you looking for part time or casual work in a dynamic and innovative arts and cultural organisation dedicated to telling the story of Victorian Aboriginal peoples and communities? Look no further. Reporting to the Education and Visitor Experience Manager, the Koorie Heritage Trust is currently recruiting Cultural Tour Guides and Visitor Experience Officers on a casual basis.

This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under “special measures” of section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are eligible to apply.

The Cultural Tour Guide and Visitor Experience Officer is responsible for assisting in:

Cultural Tour Guide

  • conducting guided cultural tours/walks for KHT visitors, schools groups and organisations through the KHT and along the Yarra River, Birrarung Marr and the sports and entertainment precinct
  • support the Tours Coordination and Education and Visitor Experience Manager, and contribute to team discussions and development of the KHT cultural tours

Visitor Experience Officer

  • welcoming all visitors and guests to the KHT, being aware of cultural sensitives as appropriate
  • answering visitor enquiries on the KHT, Victorian Koorie culture, history and heritage

General

  • all other duties as directed by the CEO and Education and Visitor Experience Manager, within the scope of the employee’s skill level and training including assisting with the set up (bump in and bump out) of events, venue hire and public programming requirements

The role requires an understanding (or an interest in acquiring an understanding) and commitment to the support, promotion and celebration of Victorian Aboriginal culture and heritage. Additionally, you will also bring to the role:

  • excellent presentation, client service and interpersonal skills
  • excellent oral communications skills including ability to deal with members of the public
  • experience, or a willingness to learn the use of computer packages
  • physical ability to assist with venue hire requirements including setting up and moving furniture and equipment

We will provide you with practical on the job training to enable you to acquire the skills as identified including gaining the knowledge (cultural and organisational) required to conduct the tours and to support you in your visitor experience role.

This role sits within our Education and Visitor Experience Team reporting to the Education and Visitor Experience Manager.
