The 7th Annual Koorie Art Show

90 artists from across all regions in Victoria will be vying for the Koorie Art Show Awards.  The exhibition opens Saturday 7 December until Sunday 23 February 2020 at the Koorie Heritage Trust, Yarra Building, Federation Square.

The Koorie Art Show is an annual art Award and exhibition and is the only exhibition in Victoria dedicated to showcasing the work of Koorie and Victorian based Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists.

Presented by the Koorie Heritage Trust in partnership with Creative Victoria, this is a non-acquisitive Award exhibition with a total prize pool of $32,000.

Through a statewide call for entries, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists 17 years and older living in Victoria can enter artworks produced in the 18 months preceding the call for entries.

From new and emerging to mid-career to senior artists, the works reflect a wonderful array of contemporary and traditional styles and mediums, including painting, photography, sculpture, fibre and digital mixed media works.

The Koorie Art Show continues the Koorie Heritage Trust’s role of incubating, nurturing and promoting Victorian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and artists.

‘I’m delighted that once again we have been able to attract a wide range of artists from regional Victoria to central Melbourne.  The range of styles and variety of materials, the imagination and the messages, all convey a sense of the creative energy that we have in Victoria through our visual artists’, says Tom Mosby, CEO, Koorie Heritage Trust.

All entries in the 7th Koorie Art Show are eligible for: Creative Victoria Award for Excellence in Any Media $10,000; Metro Tunnel Creative Program 2D Award $5,000; Viva Energy Australia 3D Award $5,000; RMIT University Emerging Artist Award $5,000; Lendlease Reconciliation Award $5,000; Koorie Heritage Trust Encouragement Awards ($500 x 2); and the Koorie Heritage Trust People’s Choice Award $1,000 (announced at the close of the exhibition).

As part of the Koorie Art Show, the Koorie Heritage Trust is also proud to present the 2nd Koorie Art Show – Kids and Youth.  The 2nd Koorie Art Show – Kids and Youth was initiated to encourage budding artists in the community, and is open to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in Victoria aged 5-17. All entries are also eligible for gift card prizes.
