LEARN AND PLAY MARNGROOK – THE LONG WALK

Image from The Long Walk

As part of The Long Walk, in the lead-up to the Dreamtime at the G match, learn about the history of the Marngrook (Aboriginal Football) and have a play using a real possum skin ball.

The word Marngrook comes from the Gunditjmara language (South Western Victoria) and means ‘game ball’. Elements of the game of Australian Rules Football (AFL) are believed to have originated from this game that was being played in various forms across Victoria.

Listen to cultural educator Bernadette Atkinson from the Koorie Heritage Trust share the history of Marngrook and talk about the game and have a go yourself!
