The Policy and Partnership Program is designed for participants who have completed an introductory program in some form and are involved in formal and significant relationship management with the Aboriginal community controlled organisation sector.

It is designed to assist participants to understand how various policies and strategies that are implemented by government impact on health and other outcomes for Aboriginal people living in Victoria.

Topics and issues covered in the program generally include:

  • Building an overview of the policy context in Aboriginal Affairs
  • Outlining the principles of consultation and partnership development
  • Considering the implications of translating policy into practice for government and the Aboriginal community

The focus of the program is to:

  • Improve participant’s knowledge of past and current issues that have had an impact on the lives of Aboriginal people and their situation today
  • Outlining the principles of consultation and partnership development
  • Outline current policies and strategies that aim to Close the Gap and improve health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal people
  • Provide information that will help you to better understand Aboriginal policies, practices and strategies that are in place and their importance to Aboriginal communities

The learning outcomes are aimed at:

  • Understanding how past and current Government policies and practices impact on the lives and outcomes of Aboriginal peoples
  • Understanding how Aboriginal community structures and protocols works
  • Understanding issues to consider when translating policy practice into action with particular reference to the range of policies and strategies being implemented by Victorian and Australian Government agencies
  • Understanding how Government Aboriginal community networks and structures engage
  • Understanding issues to consider when translating policy practice into action with particular reference to the range of policies and strategies being implemented by Victorian and Australian Government agencies
  • Understanding how to effectively engage with representatives of Aboriginal Organisations

Duration: 7 hours including morning and afternoon tea, and lunch breaks

It is a requirement that participants have completed our Full Day General Foundation Program or similar before entering this program.
